Another Friday, another Perpetual Geek Machine podcast!
Regular listeners of the show should remember that not very long ago I (Dan) gave Adam a far amount of shit for watching Doctor Who. Well, I’ve watched 7 seasons of the show in roughly 4 weeks, so it’s safe to say my opinion has changed. I come clean here with Adam and you listeners, and make my case for why it’s an awesome show. You might also call this “eating crow.”
Hey man, I’m never above admitting when I’m wrong. I was wrong about Doctor Who and am full blown Whovian now.
Outside of that Kevin continues his tumble down the homebrew hole, and Rich and I warp through space in SpaceTeam.
Imagine you are a police officer in the year 2077, assigned as extra security during the execution of a handful of ‘terrorists’ that killed thousands of people in an attempt to assassinate the heads of major corporations that now run North America. You see something hinky going on as the condemned are being prepared to meet their end, so you run in to investigate and in a blinding flash of light you wake up in a decidedly different looking cityscape. Years of training kick in as you see one of the terrorists fleeing the strange scene you find yourself in.
In short order you capture him and learn you have been transported back in time 65 years. You are the only person alive who knows what these people are capable of. Killing thousands was nothing for them in the future where their opposition was prepared for them. Now they face an unsuspecting and ill prepared timeline where you are the only one with the knowledge and training to take them on.
Sounds exciting doesn’t it? Did SyFy’s latest offering, Continuum, do enough to be added to our list of must see shows?
After writing for us for the past year or so we’ve finally folded Adam into the rotation. This was a fun show to do. It’s always great to add a new voice and all four of us were in the same room, which always makes a big difference to the energy and flow of conversation.
Time Travel can be a sticky proposition. Actually, time travel isn’t the problem so much as mucking around with the past is. As the great documentary “Back to the Future” taught us, is that it’s impossible to go back and time and make out with your mother without your siblings disappearing off your family photos…Unless you know how to play guitar like Chuck Berry.
What would you do if you could bounce around in time? What events would you visit? What events would you change? Of course everyone kills Hitler their first time jumping through time, but where do you go from there? Chrononauts explores what would happen if you went back in time and started changing stuff around all willy-nilly. To what end you ask? Just like in Quantum Leap, to hopefully make that last leap home.
