As a person that’s begun to tire of the same ol same ol when it comes to my video games it’s been an interesting year or two. I can feel myself turning my back on the big huge AAA titles in search of something different, more unique. I like games that take the medium in a new direction, or try something different. Games like Limbo, Bastion, Journey or To The Moon for example. So it’s with that sort of mentality that I can say I really appreciate games like Yesterday for existing.
Just now, inside your head you read the headline to this post in whatever voice you use to do that with. Just like you’re doing it now. And now. Here too. I guarantee there is no way you didn’t have a ton of fun hearing the word “Wizorb” in your head as you read it. Go ahead and say it out loud now, don’t worry what other people might think just say it. “Wizorb” Feels good, right? Something about the way your mouth feels when you meld that “z” sound into the “orb” part that is immensely satisfying. Whoever named this game should be given some sort of medal or something. On Monday I was browsing the Steam store, as I’m wont to do on a daily basis, and saw the release of a new free-to-play game that billed itself as “The co-op fantasy mmo shooter”. How could I NOT be intrigued by that? What the hell does that mean?
Being the diligent blogger that I like to think I am I downloaded the game and gave it a whirl. Hit the jump to see a little of what you can expect from Realm Of The Mad God. (more…)
I hate cleaning. It’s a tedious, dirty thing that is required if you want to keep up status as a sane person. It’s not like you can expect your friends to treat you the same when you invite them over and a year’s worth of soap scum has built up in the shower or there’s hair on the couch from three dogs ago. That sort of stuff tends to stand out. I’ll tell you what though…if cleaning was half as fun as it is in Dustforce with your ninja-like janitor, I’d be all over it. (more…)
Well, here we are at the most exciting number in any proper geek’s life: 42. Of course we chat in Geek Spew about one of the funniest men to ever live, Douglas Adams, and his brilliantly hysterical Hitchhiker’s series. We’re also catching up on the things we’ve been doing since our last “normal” podcast, and there’s a nice variety in there. Let’s get on with the show!
While we’re rolling out our Gift Guides all this week we found time to record a new show. Rich joins us again after making some major upgrade pre-orders to his personal life and has plenty to go over since the last time he sat in with us. Ryan has a bone to pick with some celebrities who are getting a little too loose proclaiming themselves as “nerds” and I’m there too to keep everyone in line. It’s safe to say we get lost in a post-Thanksgiving haze of gaming, movies, and dual-boot wizardry in this latest episode of our podcast.
I was browsing Reddit, as I’m wont to do, and came across this illustration poking some fun at “Things To Do When The Internet Is Down“. After getting an appropriate level of amusement from the witty jpeg I started thinking about how I came home from work the other day to find the power out at my house. I soon found out that this in no way affects my dog but quickly the panic set in for a couple of practical reasons but mostly for the completely impractical ones: No TV. No PS3/Xbox/Steam. No…INTERNET.
I found myself in any geek’s nightmare.
I decided that the best course of action was to soak up every bit of quickly diminishing sunlight by sitting next to a window and reading as much of A Storm of Swords as I could before I could no longer see. Luckily, just as I was finishing another chapter the power came roaring back to life, bringing the sweet hum of all my first world electric comforts back to life and restoring my heartbeat and anxiety levels to normal.
Though the inspiration for this was intended for humor it got me thinking that it would be prudent for us to compile A Geek’s Guide For Geeking Out When The Electric Goes Out. So hit the jump to see what we came up with. (more…)
I am a big fan of the goofy-ass fun that is the GTA isn’t, Saint’s Row is. With a focus on the ridiculous amped up to eleventy bajillion my excitement for the third installment is palpable, to say the least. Luckily developer Volition has been able to temporarily satiate my frothing-at-the-mouth desire by releasing a stand alone character creator to play around with until the full game comes out on the 15th. Check out this video below to see some of what insanity you’ll find if grab it on Steam.
