  • Ep #00048: Perpetual Geek Machine (PAX East 2012 Interview Episode)

PAX is a time for many things. For us it’s a great excuse to get together with friends that live far and wide and nerd out for a few days.

But this year we decided to hit the show with a little more structure, and do some good honest work for Perpetual Geek Machine while we were there. This podcast is just another salvo of PAX East 2012 coverage, and culls together all the interviews we conducted on the floor over the stretch of the convention.

We played a ton of games… like, a ton. We only cover a fraction of those in this show. So the interviews presented therein aren’t indicative of what we thought was cool at the show. And with that, enjoy this special podcast episode!

    Perpetual Geek Machine: Show #00047

We almost had to call this podcast off. On Thursday we all head up to Boston for PAX East 2012 and our excitement was coming to life in the form of extreme hyperactivity. Rich and I were running around my basement uncontrollably until Ryan reached through the internet cables through Skype and shook the hyper out of us. Luckily we were able to calm down long enough to get this show on tape. Err…I mean hard drive.

While I’ve got your attention you should go check out our pals at Fantastic Neighborhood. They’re good people that just started a pretty darn great video game podcast. Jump on board now before they blow up. Tell ‘em Kevin sent ya.

    Weekday Replay for 3/17/12

Welcome back to, by far, our most inconsistent “weekly” feature. Personally, I really need to make better habit of doing this one since it helps me out when I’m prepping this segment for our podcast. Well, maybe I’ll learn some day. Maybe not. We’ll see going forward. Anyway, here’s a look back at the content we pushed out this week:

On Monday, we got word that the card game Nightfall is being prepped for release on iOS devices.

On Tuesday, Rich gave us the lowdown on The Lorax.

On Wednesday, the latest entry in our Weekly Wallpapers once again featured Mass Effect 3.

On Thursday, we dipped into covering some news when Blizzard announced an official release date for Diablo III. A little bit after that I caught up with Voodoo after not digging on the first issue.

On Friday, I recounted my experience trying out the new Doritos Locos Tacos.

For our random old post this week I’m pointing back to Dan’s review of the board game Mystery Express.

We’re recording a new podcast next week but in the meantime make sure to catch yourself up on all our episodes, give us a “Like” on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our YouTube channel. If you don’t mind, that is. Have a great weekend everyone!

A phone + QR laden die = Codigo Cube (A trivia game)

Codigo Cube is quite a simple game really. You roll the die filled with QR codes, snap it with a barcode scanner on your phone with web access and it’ll load a question for you to answer. The Codigo Cube website will keep track of the points for right or wrong answers which means all you need to do to play is scan and try and answer questions. Each side is a different category and is color coded, so you may know you’re going to get an Entertainment question (for example) but you never know which one until it loads.

Perpetual Geek Machine Podcast: Show #00043
I like a show where we hit all sorts of topics in What’cha Been Doing. We were united and varied this week as we shared a lot of the same activities and spread out our attention over all sorts of media consumption. Of course, this sends our first segment into lengthy territory but I don’t think anyone will mind.

A Guide To Geeking Out…Without Electricity

Oh, The Huge Manatee!I was browsing Reddit, as I’m wont to do, and came across this illustration poking some fun at “Things To Do When The Internet Is Down“. After getting an appropriate level of amusement from the witty jpeg I started thinking about how I came home from work the other day to find the power out at my house. I soon found out that this in no way affects my dog but quickly the panic set in for a couple of practical reasons but mostly for the completely impractical ones: No TV. No PS3/Xbox/Steam. No…INTERNET.

I found myself in any geek’s nightmare.

I decided that the best course of action was to soak up every bit of quickly diminishing sunlight by sitting next to a window and reading as much of A Storm of Swords as I could before I could no longer see. Luckily, just as I was finishing another chapter the power came roaring back to life, bringing the sweet hum of all my first world electric comforts back to life and restoring my heartbeat and anxiety levels to normal.

Though the inspiration for this was intended for humor it got me thinking that it would be prudent for us to compile A Geek’s Guide For Geeking Out When The Electric Goes Out. So hit the jump to see what we came up with.  (more…)

Ep #00037: Perpetual Geek Machine Podcast

Are you Batman too? Ryan and Dan definitely are. I’m not…yet but it seems like the rest of the gaming world was Batman last week but that’s just the first part of our show. We cover a ton of ground and do it in fine fashion. So without further ado, let’s start the show!

    Weekday Replay & Feedback 10/29/11

Halloween is right around the corner, and here in South Jersey USA we’re actually getting some snow today! If you knew our typical climate, this is kind of a rarity. Does this mean I need to stop making “Winter is Coming” jokes now? Already?! Like the guy in the chainmail and wolfpelt armor is going to stop making Winterfell jokes… CMON!

Here’s what went down this past week on Perpetual Geek Machine!

On Monday we traveled to “Barcade” in Philadelphia.

On Tuesday we looked at the newest deck building hotness Eminent Domain!

On Wednesday was the Speil Des Jhares winner Quirkle!

On Thursday we shifted over to mobile and took a look at Whale Trail for your various iOS devices

On Friday we found out how Bradley Cooper gets addicted to pills in the movie Limitless.

Also on Friday we took a look at the “how is this a thing” zombie themed DLC for the popular train simulator Railworks 2012

And now, you’re blast from the past link! (Something old on the site that we think you might like!)

Here’s our review of the board game Leapin’ Lemmings!

After the break here we’re going to share a bit of the feedback we’ve gotten this past week, either in comment or email. Hit us up with comments or communique to get featured here! (more…)
