Cards Against Humanity is taking over the world. This isn’t an opinion, it’s not an observation, it’s a fact. Every time we’ve introduced the game to a new group of people the reaction has been the same: “This is the best game I’ve ever played”. Across the board. Maybe we just hang out with fantastic people but that has been our only experience so far. I don’t think any of us expect that to change. In this show we’ve got an interview with five of the creators and they’ve got some exciting news to share with everyone. Give it a listen and be sure to drop us an email. Trust us.

PAX is a time for many things. For us it’s a great excuse to get together with friends that live far and wide and nerd out for a few days.
But this year we decided to hit the show with a little more structure, and do some good honest work for Perpetual Geek Machine while we were there. This podcast is just another salvo of PAX East 2012 coverage, and culls together all the interviews we conducted on the floor over the stretch of the convention.
We played a ton of games… like, a ton. We only cover a fraction of those in this show. So the interviews presented therein aren’t indicative of what we thought was cool at the show. And with that, enjoy this special podcast episode!

It’s been awhile since we’ve done a Kickstarter Spotlight here at Perpetual Geek Machine, but that doesn’t mean we’ve ever stopped constantly scanning the site for cool and interesting projects. We’re just super picky about what we want to take the time to tell you all about. I think we’ve found a pretty great one in Z-Ward, a survival horror game with a twist.
It’s a moderated game like a Werewolf or Dungeons and Dragons where one person guides the rest of the players through the adventure, but with a text adventure slant. Think Zork but in the real world. So just like in the text adventure games of old on the PC clear statements of action are required and rewards thinking literal. So having a player say something like “I’d like to take my time” might elicit a response like “There’s no time here.” Anyone over 30 that played those games when they were younger can tell you that sometimes solving a puzzle meant figuring out not just the solution but how to phrase it so the computer could understand it. Moderator as text parser.
We took up a few minutes of designer Jared Sorensen’s time to get him to explain the system and answer a few questions about his game and his experiences with Kickstarter. (more…)
The idea behind Weekday Replay is that it gives us a chance to neatly wrap up all the stories we’ve posted on Perpetual Geek Machine over the past week. This particular week we were a little on quantity but we think definitely made up for it in the quality department. The podcast takes up a good chuck of our time and on podcast weeks other stories are always a little rough to polish up ready for display. In addition to that this week we had our first big interview, which definitely was worth it though it also took up some time. We’d love it immensely if you took some time to check them both out!
- On Wednesday we hosted a marathon podcast. 4 man with an interview dead in the middle!
- Thursday was home to our interview with famed author R.A. Salvatore. We talk all about his new book in addition to his work at 38 Studios.
That’s it, but in an effort to give you more here’s some random links from the site that might’ve been before your time here!
- Ever heard of Anomaly Warzone Earth? Well, you should definitely check this reverse tower defense PC game out!
- Mysticism and Horror meet the old west in our look at the comic book series “The 6th Gun.”
- Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer has become a pretty popular iPad app, but how bout a look at the actual card game?
If you’ve never heard of R.A. Salvatore but you’re connected to the Dungeons and Dragons world at all you’ve no doubt dealt with his creations. He’s been one of the most prolific fiction writers for the genre, starting way back in the late 80′s with The Crystal Shard which introduced his most famous character the dark elf Drizzt Do’Ourden. This week his new book “Neverwinter” hits shelves at part 2 of the Neverwinter Trilogy of books and marks Drizzt’s roughly 23rd book.
In the following interview we talk about Drizzt and life as a character, Salvatore’s work with in the Kingdoms of Amalur world with 38 Studios, the comic book series he’s writing with his son and a lengthy discussion of the new book.
You can hear the non-spoliler version of the interview in episode 35 of our podcast or you can snag the full unedited version over on our Facebook page!
The book serves as the sequel to Gauntylgrym, which has some pretty World shattering events that are discussed. So spoiler warning now, if you want to read Gauntylgrym but haven’t yet there’s some stuff down in that section that you may not want to read.
On a side note I should say it was a real thrill to get a chance to talk with him, and he couldn’t have been a more down to Earth cool guy. We really appreciate him taking the time out for us.
Enjoy!

Kickstarter is a site where you can post up something you’d like to create but lack the funds to start-up. Other users act as venture capitalists, and can fund the project with small amounts of cash. If the project gets enough backers to reach it’s goal, then you pay the amount you promised. It’s a great way for people to make their ideas a reality.
For the first spotlight we looked at the dexterity based game PongCano and we followed that up with the tabletop RPG hopeful Age Past. This time for Kickstarter spotlight we’re going to shift gears away from the games and into another area near and dear to the geek’s heart… comics!
Guerillas is a comic book about chimps that walk around wearing army fatigues carrying weapons through the jungles of Vietnam during the war. Sure, it’s about a lot more than that, but that image alone no doubt roped you in to want to learn more… right? This week’s spotlight is in an interesting situation, as it was successfully funded between the time the interview was done and this post went up. So first and foremost, GRATZ to Brahm and to his comic! Good news is you can still back it to get some great rewards and to ensure the projects keep moving past Vol.2 so get over to his Kickstarter page and pony up a few bucks!
And if you love this idea, go buy a copy of Guerillas Vol. 1. Now, let’s learn about Guerillas and the man behind it all.

It’s amazing it took as long as it did for me to discover the games section on Kickstarter, but now I’m hooked. I instantly became enamored with someone with nothing more than an idea and the tenacity to help them see it through. To that end I’ll be spotlighting some of the projects and people on Kickstarter, telling you a little bit about their products and how you can help them out if you like what they’re saying. These aren’t reviews or endorsements, we haven’t seen the products here for ourselves. Just an eye-opener and a way to help people get exposure to their projects.
So with that let’s learn a little bit about “PongCano (The Game of Sacrifice)” in a little interview we did with Joseph Balcuk, president of Roosterfin Inc.
