Man, we’re really moving right along! If we were still doing the Bitcast this would be episode 98!!! That’s just kind of incredible. Somewhere out there on the internet there’s an accumulation of well over 100 hours of us talking about shit. And about 20% of that is actually good! It’s at this point I’d like to go on record and say that this particular podcast is about 88.9% awesome and 11.1% meh (mostly the parts where I’m not talking). Hey, they all can’t be classics…. wanna fight about it?

It wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that Back to the Future had a decent impact on my life. The movie came out when I was 7 years old and still remember my parents taking me to see it in the theater. I also remember demanding to sleep in my clothes that night cause McFly does it in the movie. Sadly there was no eccentric scientist living nearby or I’m sure I would’ve befriended him as well.
So it’s safe to say I was more than a little excited when I found out the Back to the Future card game that was coming out near the Blu Ray release of the trilogy. It’s from the folks at Looney Labs who’s most popular game to date has been the Fluxx series though that’s not all they’ve done. We’ve also taken a look at Chrononauts which is a card game about time travel and lends quite a bit gameplay wise to the Back to the Future game.

Well, I gotta say listeners this show seemed on the precipice of being lost to the digital ether there during the editing process. One of us ended up with a corrupted file after outputting and while we’re not naming names (cough, Dan) luckily a re-export cleared up the wacky problems.
cue sigh of relief.
Turns out THE MACHINE WILL NOT BE STOPPED.

A few months ago I took a look at a time-travelling card game from Looney Labs called Chrononauts. In it you could change historical events that would ripple down throughout the timeline and force other events to change as a result.
It’s a lot of fun and it looks like that card mechanic is set to become even more fun when in August of 2010 The Back to the Future Card Game is released. Again from Looney Labs and seemingly drawing from that same time travel mechanic. No individual cards yet, so we don’t know specifics but I want a bonus card that says “88mph” and when you play it… well, just get ready to see some serious shit.
We’ll be following this one and you can expect coverage and a review when it’s released.
So far all we have to go on is the official description below:
Now you can jump into the action of the Back to the Future movies, with this ingenious new time travel card game! Play as the descendants of Marty McFly, Biff Tannen, Doc Brown and others, as you travel back to the events depicted in the movies. Your mission is to make sure pivotal events are not changed by other time travelers before time travel itself gets un-invented. Using a unique, patented game mechanic for simulating time travel, Andrew Looney now puts you in the driver’s seat of the famous DeLorean!
