  • A phone + QR laden die = Codigo Cube (A trivia game)

Codigo Cube is quite a simple game really. You roll the die filled with QR codes, snap it with a barcode scanner on your phone with web access and it’ll load a question for you to answer. The Codigo Cube website will keep track of the points for right or wrong answers which means all you need to do to play is scan and try and answer questions. Each side is a different category and is color coded, so you may know you’re going to get an Entertainment question (for example) but you never know which one until it loads.

Perpetual Geek Machine Podcast: Show #00043
I like a show where we hit all sorts of topics in What’cha Been Doing. We were united and varied this week as we shared a lot of the same activities and spread out our attention over all sorts of media consumption. Of course, this sends our first segment into lengthy territory but I don’t think anyone will mind.

Here’s the link to give Perpetual Geek Machine: Show #00043 a listen!

Here’s the breakdown on where to find/follow us online!

Messing Around With Android’s Movie Studio App

A few weeks ago I picked up the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It’s the latest and greatest Android phone, complete with version 4.0 of the operating system more commonly known as Ice Cream Sandwich. I had been patiently waiting to replace my Motorola Droid for a while and when word started spreading that the flagship Android phone would finally be hitting Verizon I knew I wanted to hold off from buying the HTC Thunderbolt, Samsung Droid Charge or anything else that seemed appealing at the time.

Overall, I’ve been very pleased with everything about the phone. ICS is snappy and responsive, pretty close to being on par with iOS 5 from what I can tell. Switching between apps now seems to be everything that it was originally promised to be. I’d almost dare say that after all this time, this might finally be Android’s coming out party.

One of the things that surprised me after I got the phone was the included “Movie Studio” software. This app was released as part of the tablet-only Honeycomb 3.0 software and is making its phone debut in ICS. It’s clearly a response to the mobile version of iMovie, which is to be expected when you have too huge companies competing as fiercely as Apple and Google are. Though I have absolutely zero experience with iMovie I have plenty of experience with professional video editing software so I decided to test out Movie Studio to see what it’s all about.

A Guide To Geeking Out…Without Electricity

Oh, The Huge Manatee!I was browsing Reddit, as I’m wont to do, and came across this illustration poking some fun at “Things To Do When The Internet Is Down“. After getting an appropriate level of amusement from the witty jpeg I started thinking about how I came home from work the other day to find the power out at my house. I soon found out that this in no way affects my dog but quickly the panic set in for a couple of practical reasons but mostly for the completely impractical ones: No TV. No PS3/Xbox/Steam. No…INTERNET.

I found myself in any geek’s nightmare.

I decided that the best course of action was to soak up every bit of quickly diminishing sunlight by sitting next to a window and reading as much of A Storm of Swords as I could before I could no longer see. Luckily, just as I was finishing another chapter the power came roaring back to life, bringing the sweet hum of all my first world electric comforts back to life and restoring my heartbeat and anxiety levels to normal.

Though the inspiration for this was intended for humor it got me thinking that it would be prudent for us to compile A Geek’s Guide For Geeking Out When The Electric Goes Out. So hit the jump to see what we came up with.  (more…)
