So, in my excitement to see the new Iron Man movie… I decide my desktop needed a bit of sprucing up. In the process I found a few choice Iron Man images on my harddrives, and figured I’d share them up here to spread the Tony Stark love. Enjoy.

More after the cut!

Hello there and welcome to another edition of Kick Picks! Every Monday we will feature some of the Kickstarter Projects that have gotten our attention recently. In addition to that we’ll also be occasionally showcasing some reviews of delivered Kickstarter products as well as some interviews from people that are both running and have run Kickstarter campaigns.
Quick word of note, if you’re running an Ad Blocker, you might not see the project embeds on the right of the page. Just an FYI, whether you unblock us or not is your call.
With that out of the way let’s dive right in!
Holdfast: A Gamebook of Dwarven Vengeance.
Here’s a real look into my past. When I was a kid, I was downright addicted to the gamebook series “Lone Wolf.” Not to be confused with the Lone Wolf & Cub graphic novels, The Lone Wolf books were sort of DnD lite. You created a character complete with talents, skills, hit points and inventory then played through each book sort of like it was a choose your own adventure book. Sometimes the decisions were as simple as turning to two different sections of the book, other times you had to fight or consult the inventory you kept off book somewhere. I loved these books so much that I used the title from one of their books as the name of my first BBS (As your parents). Ahh, The Chasm of Doom. Still has a great ring to it.
You can almost think of it as a book driven RPG, or a single player Dnd Adventure. While it’s true you can just do anything you want, you have a huge amount of leeway, and you can’t really say you’re “reading” the book so much as you are working your way through it.
So with that rich history you can see why something like Holdfast would hold so much interest for me. A chance to relive that memory and “play” my way through a book just sounds awesome. I’m all over this.
$10 gets you a PDF of the book while $20 and $50 get you the paperback or hardbound respectively. There’s also going to be digital versions through Tin Man Games app which operates these gamebooks. Plenty of options! Personally I’m liking the $45 level where you get to provide a saying or curse to be added into the story!

This is one of those shows that’s sort of all over the place. Cons, boardgames, videogames, movies, pinball, ice cream flavors, etc. Then again, we don’t like anything half assed.. otherwise we wouldn’t be such huge geeks.
Come take a ride down the nerd highway with us, won’t you?

Hello, world! The Geekly has finally returned! And I’ve got lots and lots of neat stuff for you today. What have I been the most obsessed with lately? Well, I love the latest Story Bundle, which is ten video game books/magazines for just $10. And I’ve got World 1-2, an incredible chiptunes album, on repeat at all times. Amazing stuff!
What else? Well, Monsters!, the game I wrote the story for, is on sale now, and you should buy it! And tickets to GameLoop Philly, happening next Saturday, are on sale now. And speaking of things I really want to go to: the Twofivesix Kill Screen conference is happening this weekend. Too much awesome!

Moby Dick, or, The Card Game
Call me Ishmael.
I’m a real sucker for a card game. Something bereft of a board and just relies on the cards themselves just feels… I don’t know… pure. Not that I don’t love a thousand piece board game either, but I enjoy the relative simplicity of the cards. Might be because I’m working on a card game of my own at the moment and am kind of dialed into that mode… but that’s a Kick Picks for a MUCH later date.
What initially drew me in to Moby Dick, or, The Card Game is the fantastic art on the cards, which all have a cool woodblock type look to them which just feels like they’re tied to the book somehow. I also enjoy the theme of recruiting a crew and going out to hunt the big whales.
$30 gets you the game, and more can get you some pretty impressive looking silkscreens. Stretch Goals are currently unlocking now to add even more to the game.
