After it was over, he and I both agreed that the movie is disturbing only if you let your imagination run away from you, and neither of us wanted to watch the impeding sequels. As I'm sure you've figured out by now, I unfortunately ended up watching the second one after all.

Movies based on video games are plentiful, but finding ones that are actually worth a damn are few and far between. It's no big secret that they're notoriously awful, but, though this subset of video game movies is relatively small, documentaries that focus on the medium have had a great track record in my experience. One very entertaining and informative example of this is "The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters." The gaming community can safely chalk up another spot in the win column with "Indie Game: The Movie." This documentary follows different independent game developers at different stages in their production. It details how these games get started in the first place, and what goes into making them. It's easy as consumers to forget that there are people behind the the games we sometimes take for granted, but, as this movie clearly shows, there's a lot more to developing a video game than writing lines of code.

One of the best things about being a geek is the ability and desire to utilize technology to organize (another favorite geeky pasttime) and simplify our daily lives. Back when I first started using PCs as a normal part of my every day I quickly learned the power of having Excel documents for damn near everything. The grid layout speaks to the exact way that my brain organizes data and I found that making up a complicated formula to compile the rows and columns is just plain fun. Though I’m still trying to figure out a good way to enter and calculate time data.

A couple nights ago I was ready to turn in when I remembered that earlier in the day when I was leaving my favorite local liquor store with some new purchases that I wanted to start keeping track of my growing collection of beer that I’m aging in a cabinet in my basement. It was getting to the point where I couldn’t simply remember when I bought the ones I had already put away and knew that I needed to change that. It’s spreadsheet time, baby!

We're officially into the second quarter of the year and it's pretty safe to say none of us are lighting the world on fire with how many movies we're watching. It's still fun to have a record like this to keep track of everything. Inevitably I always wind up forgetting about most of the things I've seen every year. In case you've been keeping up with these and have forgotten yourself, here's the link to find all of the previous entries for this little project.

The real-life motorsport that is rally racing is a wholly unique experience that’s not widely known in these United States. Mostly confined to Europe you’ll find offroad point-to-point racing where the drivers compete for the fastest time during a stage. The cars start individually at preset intervals to allow the cars general free-use of the courses that aren’t built to allow a large number of cars to run at the same time. The stage times accumulate to an overall time that determines the winner. Boardgames like Formula D have already tackled the world of Formula 1 racing and PGM favorite Snow Tails adapted a similar tabletop formula for the world of dog sled racing. Today we’re looking at Rallyman to see how well they’ve brought rally to a tabletop near you.

As a self-proclaimed movie geek, I try to devour as much as I can about a film production that interests or excites me. Who is directing it? Who is starring in it? Sometimes a movie can be in production for years, and the director, writers, stars, etc. can change several times. After a movie is released, it may have gone through several changes, but it was ultimately put out for public consumption. However, not all movies are are finished, or even make it out of principle production and languish in what is known as "development hell." Author David Hughes has expertly researched, and documented numerous movie productions that have stalled out in his book, 'Tales From Development Hell: The Greatest Movies Never Made?'

Well, I'm diving into the world of reviewing food.

Wait, let me rephrase that.

I'm diving into the world of reviewing "food".

What better place to start than a novelty taco at Taco Bell? I like to tell myself that I don't eat fast food that often but that's not always true. I try to diet sometimes and I usually can stick to it for a while but when I fall...woah brother! Do I fall hard. Daily trips to Wendy's are not all that uncommon and if there was a Taco Bell closer to either my job or home it would be dangerous.

Sometimes that "I NEED TACO BELL NOW" craving comes on in uncontrollable levels that can't be contained until I cram as many soft shell tacos down my gullet as possible. Doesn’t matter if it’s 4 in the morning (well, it does since most Taco Bell locations are not 24/7), when that thought enters my mind it just does. not. shut. up.

When the wife and I saw the commercial for the new Doritos Locos Tacos...well we knew we were in trouble. It’s the perfect idea for the union of two of the ultimate junk foods to join forces. Why had this not happened before? Hell, why hadn’t anyone made a more flavorful taco shell up to this point? Making a taco shell a big, orangey, dusty Dorito could only have taken this long to happen because it’s so damn obvious.

If you remember reading my review of Voodoo #1 you already know two things: I had no previous knowledge of Voodoo before the relaunch and I really hated the seemingly shallow character and setting. To me this first issue represented a lot of what I don't like about comics which mostly revolves around poor female characters. The argument and conversations concerning this topic aren’t new but they’re still happening which means that a problem still exists to some extent. In my view comics like Voodoo were perpetuating the overly sexualized and shallow female characters that run all too rampant.

I like Dr. Seuss as much as the next guy. What kid didn't grow up reading "Green Eggs and Ham" or "The Cat in the Hat?" The guy wrote some of the most brilliant children's stories of all time because he made them fun for kids, but they all had a simple, yet important message to convey. Though his stories could make for a good kid's movie, more often than not, they end up being terrible, and I place that blame squarely on the film maker. The source material is usually perfect. Directors and writers tend to screw things up by trying to get some length out of Dr. Seuss classics by adding annoying songs, or useless characters. Though, sadly, "The Lorax" falls victim to modern Seuss adaptations, it doesn't come off nearly as bad as some of its predecessors.

Like many of you, I enjoy playing military first person shooters. When I first saw the trailer for "Act of Valor," I immediately thought it was about as close as Hollywood has come to making "Call of Duty" into a live-action film. The games are practically movies already with their intense action set-pieces and global plots. I became excited and I immediately started to count the days for the theatrical release. However, I never thought that "Act of Valor" would hit me the way that it did. As I left the theater I wasn't settling down after seeing what looked like a promising action movie. I actually felt a little disturbed and I wished I hadn't seen the movie in the first place.

Somehow I don't think that is what the directors intended.

David Fincher's film adaptation of Stieg Larsson's first entry in the Millenium series, "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo," is now my third roll in the hay with the same story. I read the book, I watched the excellent 2009 Swedish adaptation of the book, and I gave it another go with David Fincher's take on it. Despite knowing exactly what was going to happen (two times anyway), this engrossing story and these memorable characters managed to come off as exhilarating, and fresh once more. That is exactly why I find it unfortunate that this movie was so criminally underwatched this past holiday season from what I've read, but don't let the box office grosses fool you. This is one of the best movies of 2011, hands down. If this is your first introduction to the main character, Lisbeth Salander, you won't be disappointed with David Fincher's vision.

I love film noir. The stories are all generally the same but the stories have never been what makes them so special. It's the mood and feel and look of those films that give them a special place in many a cinephile's heart. When I saw the cover of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips' new comic Fatale I immediately knew it was something I must consume immediately.

Look at that thing. It's one of the finest covers I've seen for a comic in a long time. Sure, it's simple. Black, white and red. The close up of a "classic" film noir femme fatale holding a steaming gun. The demon suggesting there might be something more to this than just your straight-up noir storytelling. I was sucked in, but that's just the cover. Does the rest of this first issue live up to the promise laid out on the front? Keep reading to find out.

A few weeks ago I picked up the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It's the latest and greatest Android phone, complete with version 4.0 of the operating system more commonly known as Ice Cream Sandwich. I had been patiently waiting to replace my Motorola Droid for a while and when word started spreading that the flagship Android phone would finally be hitting Verizon I knew I wanted to hold off from buying the HTC Thunderbolt, Samsung Droid Charge or anything else that seemed appealing at the time.

Overall, I've been very pleased with everything about the phone. ICS is snappy and responsive, pretty close to being on par with iOS 5 from what I can tell. Switching between apps now seems to be everything that it was originally promised to be. I'd almost dare say that after all this time, this might finally be Android's coming out party.

One of the things that surprised me after I got the phone was the included "Movie Studio" software. This app was released as part of the tablet-only Honeycomb 3.0 software and is making its phone debut in ICS. It's clearly a response to the mobile version of iMovie, which is to be expected when you have too huge companies competing as fiercely as Apple and Google are. Though I have absolutely zero experience with iMovie I have plenty of experience with professional video editing software so I decided to test out Movie Studio to see what it's all about.

If there's anything I've learned from the two games that served as my introduction into the World Beyond Monopoly of board games (Settlers of Catan and Carcassonne) it's that I love building cities and civilizations with tiles. Maybe it's the Lego-lover in me that loves using pieces free form to build something bigger, I don't know. I guess it makes sense that I also love trying to destroy island villages via lava fire tiles. Such is the case in Eruption by Status Games.

In Eruption the goal is simple: Keep your village from being burned while trying to redirect the lava flow towards your competitor's villages. The square game board features a circular island with a volcano at its center and six villages spread out evenly around the coast. Starting at the center players tack a new lava tile onto an existing flow trying to aim them towards any village that's not yours. You can try to protect your village buy putting up walls that usually only act for a short amount of time to lessen the inevitable damage. Players can also use action cards that affect the flow of the lava or the villages' defenses.
