
We haven’t had an update for a while, sorry about that avid readers. I’ll wrap up the first chapter, session four, and give a mega chapter-sized update, sessions five through eight, this weekend. A lot has happened in the last few months in and around the new Village of Inverness, I wonder if everyone has survived?

This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend some of Troll Lord Games Troll-Con East 2011 held at All Things Fun comic shop. It was a fun time that delivered on what was promised, Dungeons and Dragons type game play with a lighter rule set.
We were run through an adventure by Stephen Chenault, author of the Castle Keepers Guide (their DMG). We had a fun and boisterous group and Steve let us go with the flow. He didn’t bat an eye when our bard announced his lute was reinforced on the back with iron and he wanted to use that as a club. For some reason the halfling druid I played carried a didgeridoo. Personally I know I’m going to love any gaming system that has didgeridoo in the core books equipment list.

At the Table - This session started off with a pep talk from Brother Splintershield. He had gotten wind that some people in the caravan were worried about the frequency of “trouble” and how it seemed some people were keeping things close to the vest. He hoped to convey that each and every one of the people on this journey are important to the new town of Inverness and that they all faced the dangers there together.

At the Table - This week a new NPC is introduced to the party. Faldyra, a scholarly female elf, wanted to pick some herbs and bark from a copse of trees they could see in the distance. Malgram didn’t think it was the best idea so it was left to the gang to stand guard over her while she collected her clippings. Would this be a boring week of landscaping for the party?

Each week we’ll be breaking down a session of the weekly Dungeons and Dragons Encounters series. “Encounters” is a once a week game session that plays in about 1-2 hours at your local game/hobby/comic shop. It’s great for people with busy schedules or those looking to get back into the hobby. This season is called “March of the Phantom Brigade” and what follows is the wrap-up from week 1. Enjoy!

This week in encounters, role playing!
To start the adventure the players were told their characters were protectors of a caravan out of the Dwarven city of Hammerfast destined to establish a new settlement to the southwest. The adventurers promised to defend the caravan with their lives! Among them were Nivius a Human Mage, Morgram a Dwarven Warpriest and Belgos a Drow Ranger. They spoke of how they were looking forward to getting away from the perpetually haunted Hammerfast.

We are about to start another season of Dungeons and Dragons Encounters. This season is “March of the Phantom Brigade” and, at the risk of sounding cliché, promises to give players much more of a chance to role play and not just roll play.
