If you’ve been hoping we’d get some swampy marsh type territory in the DnD dungeons tiles line then you’re going to love the new Witchlight Fens dungeon tiles set. The detail is as great as ever and next to the Icewind Dale set I think this one is my favorite. This could easily chain into the wilderness sets or even the water tiles of the desert stuff. 6 tiles, double sided.

Kickstarter is a site where you can post up something you’d like to create but lack the funds to start-up. Other users act as venture capitalists, and can fund the project with small amounts of cash. If the project gets enough backers to reach it’s goal, then you pay the amount you promised. It’s a great way for people to make their ideas a reality.
It’s amazing it took as long as it did for me to discover the games section on Kickstarter, but now I’m hooked. I instantly became enamored with someone with nothing more than an idea and the tenacity to help them see it through. To that end I’ll be spotlighting some of the projects and people on Kickstarter, telling you a little bit about their products and how you can help them out if you like what they’re saying. These aren’t reviews or endorsements, we haven’t seen the products here for ourselves. Just an eye-opener and a way to help people get exposure to their projects.
So with that let’s learn a little bit about “PongCano (The Game of Sacrifice)” in a little interview we did with Joseph Balcuk, president of Roosterfin Inc.

I’ve been playing Magic: The Gathering off and on since I was in high school (trust me, that was a long time ago). I mostly faded away from the physical card game, for monetary reasons really, but have since come back into the Magic playing fold with the introduction of the videogame versions of the game. Not having to buy packs and packs of cards means people like me that don’t want to chase collectible cards can still enjoy the great card game.

I love the shows where we cover a lot of ground, and we definitely do that this week. Infamous 2 covers the video games, Conquest of Nerath the boardgames. Chew gets us into comics and Super 8 + Xmen First Class handle the movies. If it’s nerdy it’s here people!
We’d also always love to hear from you guys if you want us to cover something specific. Hit us up!
Listen and enjoy!

Conquest of Nerath is a new tactical warfare game set in the world of Dungeons and Dragons. It mixes up a bit of risk and a healthy amount of Axis and Allies, and applies a generous amount of fantasy world setting to the top to create a rich experience and totally unlike any of the other D&D boardgames that Wizards of the Coast has released recently.
If you’re looking for a game with a decent amount of strategy, a ton of components but pretty simple and clear rules (once you see them in action for a few turns) then Conquest of Nerath might be just what the Dr. ordered! It’s what I would call a good entry level into the tactical army type boardgames of this nature. It’s also a lot of fun. So let’s take a look at it!

The Internet is a big place. In this new series we’ll take a look at different sites floating out there that we think are worth your time. If you have any sites that you think we should let people know about, leave a comment or drop us an email, podcast@perpetualgeekmachine.net.
As an adult over-burdened with responsibilities not left with a huge amount of time or “fun money” to spend on games it’s often important to me to know about how long a game will take to finish. In the past simply Googling “[name of game] hours” sufficed in finding a review where they mentioned the approximate length of the game. Now there’s a web site that acts as a one-stop source of that specific information, HowLongToBeat.com. Hit the jump to find out more about what the site has to offer. (more…)

Miniatures scare me. Not in that “things that go bump in the night” kind of way, but in that “this seems too complex/will inevitably make me look like the village idiot” kind of way. I have friends that war game with hulking space robots and bad ass vehicles, and the prospect of stepping into that world terrifies me to the very core. Needless to say, the idea behind Heroscape – miniature figures running around hex-based landscape beating the hell out of each other – did nothing to help me swallow that fear. Yet swallow I did – and you know what? I think it made me a better man.

I’ve been wanting to expand our coverage into the world of comic books, but really didn’t want to just tread the old stand review formula. Readers seemed to enjoy our Black Dynamite comic coverage, so it would seem I’m not alone in being interested in the comic world.
In that vein I’d like to take some time to try and expose you to some of the titles I’ve been enjoying, and not tell you why it’s good or bad but just give you a nice overview and then you can decide for yourself if it’s something you’d like to try for yourself.
To start this new kick I’m going to talk about Oni Press’ The 6th Gun. What I read is the first trade paperback released called “Cold Dead Fingers” and includes issues #1-6 of the ongoing series. The 6th Gun is a post civil war western that manages to mix in a healthy dose of horror and the supernatural.
This may be easy to infer from the title but it’s based around a group of mystical six shooters that do a lot more than just fire bullets. Each one does something different and otherwordly, and none of them stray to far from being evil. One gun for example commands the spirits of the people it kills to do it’s bidding, or shoots bullets that make the victim melt as if it was hit by acid. Nasty nasty stuff.
