Obligatory year end podcast is obligatory, so naturally we had to succumb to the temptation of looking back at the year that was… 2010. This year saw a bunch of changes for us, we put The Bitcast podcast to bed after our 90th episode and emerged reborn and re-branded as the Perpetual Geek Machine! We’re pretty proud of ourselves and the show we’ve been putting out, though I admit we’re struggling a bit trying to figure out the best way to get the word out there. But we’re enthralled to take the quest into 2011!

With Christmas in a couple of days there’s been a good amount of great memories being shared amongst my fellow geek brethren. I turned to my fellow PGM compadres and asked them to share their favorite geeky gifts that Santa delivered to them from a more simple, easier and fun time. Even now as a 32 year-old adult I’ll pick up the occasional package addressed to me that’s sitting under the tree and give it a shake. I don’t know what I expect to hear and tell from that act, it’s not like I’m getting a bunch of toys any more. I guess it’s just something that’s been ingrained in me since I was a kid: sleuthing around the gift pile trying to recognize the exact dimensions and shapes of certain things that I asked Santa to get me that year. My mother knew I did this early on and when my grandmother got me Zelda the Christmas it came out she put inside a huge box so that I wouldn’t know it was a NES game. (more…)

Us geeks do our best to let our hobbies permeate our every waking moment. We carry books in our backpacks, we play games on our phones, we talk about who’d win in a fight between Darth Vader, Spider-Man and Voldemort (it’s Voldemort BTW). On other words, we’re geeks 24/7, we’re the real fucking deal.
