Turkey Day is over once again, which means like it or not we’re into the holiday shopping season. We’re going to be here all this week to give you the low down on the stuff you SHOULD be buying for your loved ones (of course that means people you really love and not just the people you’re expected to love, just buy those people crap.) We already kicked things off with analog games (board, rpg, etc) but we’ve got a bunch of cool shit to cover over the course of the rest of the week!
But let’s take a look at some Sound & Vision discs (music & movies/tv) that would make great gifts! Think we missed any good ones? Let us know in the comments!

I can’t imagine we could’ve looked less like heroes, but there we were… champion of the wastes and what remained of reality after “The Big Mistake.” A giant sentient coke machine, a Yeti with the ability to shake the earth, a radioactive cockroach we called “Larry,” a half man/hawk that was forever on fire and a swarm of mechanical rats. Such is life in Gamma World, where even this rag-tag group of outcasts manages to fight (and die) for good out in the middle of nowhere.
Gamma World is the recent release by Wizards of the Coast that takes us back to the much loved world of the same name. They’ve moved it away (though not by much) from the standard Dungeons and Dragons banner and put it into it’s own space, heavily based on the rules we know from 4th Edition with some pretty intense streamlining. In short they made the game more open, easier to learn, and more dependent on your imagination and willingness to have a fun and slightly goofy time. It’s awesome.

This podcast had the unintended outcome of a central theme. The topic that seemed to come up over and over again was that while we enjoy getting excellent products and services, we really hate how companies can be so damn high and mighty about it. It’s no small coincidence that Apple is part of that discussion.
Going in we all thought this show would end up shorter than most, and while it definitely is that… it’s not by much. I guess the standard PGM show is always going to be around the 90 minute mark. A question for the listeners then…. is that too long? Too short? We obviously want to make the product our users want, so let us know!

Having recently jumped back into the world of Dungeons and Dragons after a hiatus of about 10 years, the question of what I see in it or why I enjoy it has been brought up more than a few times by those around me. Not maliciously mind you, just more of a curiosity since most of the people I hang out with these days don’t have any connection to the game and have never played it. It’s understandable that they wonder what a man in his 30’s gets out of it.
When I get talking about it to people that ask but have no idea what the game is, the answer becomes a lot more involved than just saying “it’s fun” or that “I enjoy it.” Of course I could talk about the world of D&D, the depth or the lore or the joy of killing Beholders. I could talk about the rules of combat and the addictions to polyhedral dice. But I don’t. What I talk about is friendships, and that in no uncertain terms Dungeons and Dragons changed my life in incredibly positive ways.
