  • A little E.A. Poe “Raven” to kick off your Halloween weekend

There’s very few authors I can return to again and again, re-reading the same material over and over and be thrilled each and every time. I probably read Orwell’s “Animal Farm” once a year, and there’s always a few others that get re-read here and there, but it’s minimal. But every year around Halloween I go on a Poe kick and tear through a bevy of his short stories, and every year I enjoy the shit out of it. Stories like the Tell-Tale Heart and The Cask of Amontillado honestly seem to get better each and every time I read them.

John De Lancie (“Q” from Star Trek) takes a run at performing The Raven in the clip below and I gotta say he knocks it out of the damn park. This isn’t a reading of the poem, even though he’s just looking at the camera the entire time this man is acting – with his voice alone – and doing a damn good job.

    Enjoy your Halloween everyone!

So Long, Caprica, We Hardly Knew Ya…SyFy Cancels “Caprica”

Hot on the heels of the recently green-lit Battlestar Galactica prequel series Blood & Chrome comes the news that SyFy has canceled Caprica, the first BSG prequel series that just started its second season.

    From SyFy’s statement:

“The remaining first run episodes of Caprica – airing Tuesdays at 10/9c – will be removed from the schedule as of next Tuesday, November 2. These final five episodes of the season will be re-scheduled to air at a to be announced time in the first quarter of 2011, and will conclude the run of the series.”

“We appreciate all the support that fans have shown for Caprica and are very proud of the producers, cast, writers and the rest of the amazing team that has been committed to this fine series,” said Mark Stern, programming head at Syfy. “Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, Caprica has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season.”

As big of a BSG fan as I was I still haven’t watched a single episode of Caprica. Guess I was part of the problem. Sorry ’bout that!

Battlestar Galactica set to return to our televisions and our tabletops!

Us BSG fans have it pretty good these days. Weird to say that since the show has been off the air for quite a bit now, we really shouldn’t have so much interesting stuff happening… but hey, I ain’t going to tell them to stop!

First up is the just announced expansion for the already fantastic Battlestar Galactica board game. This marks the second expansion for the game and introduces more game elements that make the deception and treachery of the BSG game so much fun! The full run down on new elements can be found here and this is one I’m definitely going to pick up as soon as it’s released. I’m especially interested in the Conflicted Loyalties aspect.

Now I just need to find some more people to play it with, it’s not an entry level game by any means so finding willing players can sometimes be a hassle.

In another bit of excellent news it would seem that the SyFy Network has greenlit a new Battlestar pilot episode that will trace the Viper pilot life of a young William Adama during the 1st Cylon War. This marks a return to the more interesting aspects of the BSG universe and away from the Caprica, which for my money really didn’t do anything for me at all.

Two bits of news to get excited about for us Battlestar fans, and give us a reason to still yell things like “FRAK!” and “SO SAY WE ALL!”

    Perpetual Geek Machine: Show #00011

Hide ya kids, Hide ya wife…. it’s another episode of the Perpetual Geek Machine podcast! Episode #11 is a number to celebrate really, it’s no milestone or earmark of any kind. Yet I so enjoy doing the podcast that each one is a little celebration to me, a chance to really nerd it out and get into some goofy conversations… like about 3D printers made out of lego that print functioning lego pieces. Oh yea, we really get our nerd on here.

So I think I have a job for you, our intrepid listeners. If you enjoy our show we’d be forever grateful if you could tell your friends about us. Right now we do this show simply because we love it, and fitting in into our normal isn’t always easy. As such we falter in to the advertising area, but I’ve always believed that word of mouth is better than a million bucks spend on google ads anyways. So if you dig the show, tell a friend to check it out… and as always we’d love to hear from you!

Here’s the link to give Perpetual Geek Machine: Show #00011 a listen!

Here’s the breakdown on where to find/follow us online!

You look like the kind of person that expects some show notes…. FINE!

“Paul” teaser has lots o’ funny

From Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, the guys who brought us “Shaun Of The Dead” and the highly underrated “Hot Fuzz” comes the teaser for their new film “Paul”. This one pairs them up as friends obsessed with aliens who happen to stumble upon an actual alien (named “Paul”, natch) whilst on a road trip through the Area 51, uh…area, of Nevada.

Seth Rogan voices the alien while Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig, Sigourney Weaver and a whole bunch of other excellent folk round out the cast. If it’s half as good as either of their first two movies I’ll be sure to catch this as early as possible.

    Check out the teaser:
