Perpetual Geek Machine: Show #00007

It felt good to get back in the podcasting saddle after an extra week off (since we time-delayed our last show to post during vacation). Ryan sits out this week as he’s in the middle of moving and all his geekly possessions are no doubt in neatly marked cardboard boxes. But fear not, the show goes on!
This week we were very lucky and happy to have friend of the show (and real-life friend) Xav de Matos, who has moved up the ranks from BBPS writer, to Joystiqer and now East Coast Editor for Shacknews.com! We’re honestly proud of the bastard. It was great to both catch up and get his unique take on what’s he’s been spending his time on.
Here’s the breakdown on where to find/follow us online! We also want to hear your feedback, whatever it may be… suggestions for homework or topics for 5 hit-combo, etc. As always you can follow us on Twitter. You can subscribe to the lovely podcast on iTunes or Zune marketplace. And get in on our hot, uncensored RSS action.

What’cha Been Doing? Start – 31:06
- Xav was the only one of our group so far to see the Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World movie, so if you’re looking for the Perpetual Geek conversation about Mr. Pilgrim, this is it (though his name might come up when we get our hands on that XBLA game). In addition to the tales of a Canadian superhero Xav dove into the new Lara Croft game (sans Tomb Raider title) and reports back good times!
- Kevin spent most of his gaming life the past few weeks playing Monday Night Combat, which judging by general internet reaction is pretty damn solid. While away from the internet he dug out his PSP(!) for a little Hot Shots Tennis: Get a Grip while on vacation. Since the device was powered he decided to dig into the PSP comics reader as well.
- Dan also enjoyed copious amounts of Monday Night Combat after returning home and getting back on the net. Some DRM bullshit while on vacation left him holding an Xbox 360 with barely any working games which led to the trial and enjoyment of the few year old Pure from Blackrock Studios. He also tried to take a look at the new Zen Pinball table on the PS3 but online nonsense on Sony’s part left him unable to buy anything from them, and the official response back was both baffling and hilarious.
Geek Spew 31:07 – 1:02:30 (Each of us brings a geek related news bit to the table to share and discuss)
- Dan brings a word of warning to the folks of Geek Spew, as it seems the British have actually gone and made an autonomous cylon raider (warning, video in link autoplays). This is it people, when the machines take over (WHEN, not if) we’ll point back to this very moment of where it all went so horribly wrong. Also, Monday Night Combat got an update.
- Kevin breaks down Paste magazines’s TV’s 10 Greatest Geeky Sidekicks. While we disagree with some of the “geek” pedigree here, anytime we get to talk about The Wire and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia we’re happy.
- Xav got his hands on lots of games at the recent X10 event in Toronto and breaks down all the stuff he saw there including NHL 11 and Spider-man: Shattered Dimensions
5 Hit Combo! 1:02:49 – End (Two of us battle for supremacy as we compare and debate our Top 5 lists. The winner plays again the next show, while the loser can only sit and judge as a new challenger appears! Play along with us, choose who you think does a better job.)
- Dan Vs. Kevin
- This show’s topic: Top 5 movies that you HATE but everyone else seems to LOVE
- Next topic: Top 5 games considered “classics” that really haven’t aged well
- Interested in past topics and winners? You can see the breakdown here
